How to Decrease Electric Bill

Here is the good news. I am writing this article “How to decrease electric bill” to show you that there are actually a lot of different things we can do to lower or even eliminate our electric bills.

Click Here for the Ultimate Step-by-Step Guide How to Decrease Your Electric Bill.

So, how to decrease electric bill?

The actions can basically be divided into two groups:

  1. Watch your consumption and try to save electricity
  2. Make your own electricity at home

1. How to decrease electric bill by saving electricity

  1. Switch of the light in rooms that you are not in
  2. Switch off your TV, DVD player etc completely when you don’t use them (don’t just leave them on “power save” but actually turn the power off)
  3. Change your light bulbs to energy saving bulbs
  4. Unplug devices such as cell phone rechargers completely as they will otherwise continue to consume energy
  5. Check if you can switch your electricity supplier to a cheaper one
  6. If you are using air conditioning units keep the filters clean and have the units regularly inspected

2. How to decrease electric bill by making electricity at home

Please note: In this article “How to decrease electric bill” I can only give you an overview of the possibilities.

Instead of just buying our electricity from the big power companies it is actually very easy to generate our own electricity at home. The two most common technologies used in private homes to generate electricity are solar panels and wind turbines.

Solar panels are being used to collect sunlight and turn it into electricity.

Wind turbines are being used to generate electricity from wind energy.

A solar panel is actually nothing else than a box with 36 solar cells. Ready-made solar panels are very expensive. Instead, you can simply buy the solar cells and then build the box yourself. All you need is a step-by-step instruction manual. Self-made solar panels work as efficiently as ready-made ones but for only a fraction of the cost.

A wind turbine is an electricity generator that is connected to some blades. The blades are being turned by the wind and the generator uses this rotary movement to generate electricity. Wind turbines can also either be bought ready-made or build by yourself for a fraction of the cost.

With a professional set of instructions anybody can build a fully functioning and electricity producing solar panel and wind turbine. Every unit of electricity you generate will automatically reduce the amount of energy you have to buy from the power company.

We have reached the end of this article “How to decrease electric bill”. I hope you enjoyed reading it. I would like to leave you with this thought.

In some countries private households generate more electricity than they need. In Germany, for example, this surplus electricity can be fed back into the grid and the power companies pay the households a fixed amount of money per unit of electricity.

Solar Panel How to Build

Solar Panel How to Build Instructions

Solar Panel How to Build

In this article “Solar panel how to build” I will give you a very detailed overview of all the steps necessary to build a fully functioning electricity producing solar panel.

Click Here for the ultimate practical Solar Panel How to Build instructions.

This process is very straight forward and does not require a lot of do-it-yourself expertise.

Before we start this “solar panel how to build“ guide, I would like to point out that a solar panel is nothing more than a box that contains a number of individual solar cells that are wired together in series.

Solar cells are the electricity producing units and they are actually very fragile and easy to break. The main purpose of putting them into a box (the panel) is to protect them from harsh weather and environmental conditions and anything else that may cause damage to them.

The two main ingredients, therefore, for building an electricity producing solar panel are solar cells and a box. Therefore, this “solar panel how to build“ manual will cover the three main aspects: solar cells, the box and the assembly.

Solar cells
Even though it is possible to build solar cells yourself, this is not recommended for the novice. Instead, in this “solar panel how to build“ article I recommend you purchase solar cells that are new but second rate blemished or slightly damaged cells.

These factory-second rate solar cells can be bought at places like ebay for a fraction of the cost of first grad new solar cells.
These solar cells are considered second rate because they usually have small chips. Inspite of those small imperfections these solar cells still work just fine.
For our purpose in this “solar panel how to build“ introduction I recommend you buy 3×6 mono-crystalline solar cells. Each cell produces ½ volt.

36 cells in series produce 18 volt or about 60 watts of power in bright sunlight.

Of course, you can also buy larger cells that can produce more electricity each but then your overall solar panel will become much bigger in size, too. To start with I recommend 3inch by 6inch solar cells.
Since solar cells are very easy to break many manufacturers put them together in blocks and then dip them in wax.

The advantage of this method is that they are easier to transport without damaging them. The drawback is that you need to clean the wax off of them before you can use them.

Instead, look for solar cells without wax if you can. That will make the assembly process much easier.
As we intend to solder our solar cells together you should buy cells with metal tabs on them.
Otherwise, you will have to solder these tabs on yourself and that will increase the amount of soldering you have to do.

The box
The panel itself is nothing else but a shallow box large enough to hold all 36 solar cells in place.

In this “solar panel how to build“ overview we cannot cover the process of making a simple box in detail.

A single piece of plywood with a ¾ inch high frame around the edges will be fine. The box should have some holes for air ventilation and for moisture to dissappear.

Inside this box you can fit another thin piece of non-conducting material onto which the actual solar cells will be fixed. You then need plexiglass to seal the box to protect the solar cells from the elements.

Assembly process
Of course in this article “Solar panel how to build” I can only give you a summary of the assembly process.
Step 1: Build the basic box
Step 2: Put several coats of paint on the plywood, the frame and the thin non-conducting material to protect it from the weather and from moisture
Step 3: Remove the wax from solar cells
Step 4: Draw the outline of how you want to layout the solar cells onto the thin non-conducting material
Step 5: Put solar cells in place on the thin non-conducting material facing down
Step 6: Solder tabs on the back of each solar cell
Step 7: Glue the solar cells onto the thin non-conducting material in their final positions
Step 8: Solder the cells together in series
Step 9: Place the non-conducting material with the attached and soldered solar cells into the box and fix it into place
Step 10: Let the wires exit at the back of the panel and connect an appropriate plug
Step11: Add a blocking diode to prevent the solar cells from consuming electricity during night time
Step12: Cover the box with the plexiglass.
Step 13: Use silicon caulk to seal the holes where the wires exit.

The main purpose of these “solar panel how to build” instructions is to show you how easy it is to build your own fully functioning and electricity producing solar panel.
Before you start building your own solar panel, however, I recommend you get your hands on some professional “solar panel how to build“ instruction manual, preferrably with video instructions and support staff that you can contact should you have any questions during the building process.

I hope you have enjoyed this article “solar panel how to build“ and I wish you success building your first electricity producing solar panel.

Make Electricity at Home

Start Now to Make Electricity at Home

Make Electricity at Home

In this article we will look at the best strategy for you to use when you want to start to make electricity at home.

Click here for the ultimate practical instructions on how to make electricity at home.

Most of us probably grew up in a household where the energy consumed was generated by a huge power plant in the area.

As we grew older (and wiser?) we learned about the health and environmental problems asssociated with this kind of power generation. Regardless of whether we burn fossil fuels or use nuclear power the harm we do to our planet is massive.

Today, producing electricity using alternative renewable energy sources has become much more mainstream.

Renewable energy technology has improved tremendously over the last couple of decades. It is now entirely possible for many of us to make electricity at home.

The reasons why people want to make electricity at home are numerous:

  • We want to reduce our carbon footprint
  • We want to protect our health and our environment
  • We want to make our contribution for a cleaner and greener future
  • We want to become more independent from the large power companies
  • We want to save money on our electricity bills.

Depending on your objectives, your location, the amount of money you can invest and the amount of electricity you want to make, you have basically 3 different sources to make electricity at home.

These sources are

  1. solar power
    wind power
    geothermal power.

Solar power, i.e. harnessing the energy of the sun has traditionally been used as a source of light and heat.

Solar collectors are an example of solar technology that is already being used in many parts of the country.
However, solar power can also be used to make electricity at home.

Most of us are probably familiar with pocket calculators that use little solar cells (photovoltaic cells) instead of a battery. This technology can also be used to make electricity at home.

Using wind power basically means installing a wind turbine and generating electricity through the rotary movement of the blades.

Using geothermal energy one doesn’t really make electricity at home. Rather, one uses the natural heat of our planet to provide hot water and general heat for their home.

All of this technology is readily available on the market today.

The main problem is that it is very expensive to buy and install. Furthermore, converting your home from traditional energy sources to solar or wind energy is a very big decision.

Instead of jumping in and spending a fortune without knowing exactlty what to expect we recommend you start with small steps.

Instead of buying a huge system that can power your whole household why not start with a small solar or wind project to see whether solar and wind energy really work for you and your location?

If you decide to start with a small project first, wether solar or wind energy, why not build a small solar panel or wind turbine yourself for a fraction of the cost.

That way you will save a lot of money and gain a much better understanding of what to look out for should you decide for a larger system at a later date.

Building your own solar panel or wind turbine is actually a very straight forward process and can be accomplished extremely easily with the right set of instructions.

You can build a fully functioning solar panel or wind turbine and start to make electricity at home.

This will help you start saving some money on your electric bill straight away and give you the necessary insight for future expansions.

Renewable Electricity

Renewable Electricity

It is possible to generate renewable electricity by harnessing the power of renewable natural resources.

Most renewable energy resources are derived directly or indirectly from the sun and solar radiation.

Click here for the ultimate practical instructions on how to produce your own renewable electricity.

Solar energy is used directly for heating and electricity generation and indirectly through the usage of energy from the wind and waves, and geothermal energy resulting from the heat generated within the earth.

Renewable electricity is electricity that has been generated by using these continually replenished resources.

Some technologies are already producing very efficient power while others need further research and development.

In the future renewable electricity could replace a significant proportion of our current fossil fuel use, and thus reduce the overall environmental impact that our current energy sources have.

The sun’s power can already be converted into renewable electricity. There are a number of different technologies available, but in the past only few people have taken advantage of them.

One such technology to convert solar power into renewable electricity is a solar technology called `solar collectors`.

Solar collectors are known as active solar heating. A solar collector is mounted on the roof of a building where it collects solar radiation to produce heat at temperatures usually under 100C.

This type of renewable electricity is often used in private households for the hot water supply in showers and the swimming pool heating.

Solar collectors are easy to install. You can either hire an energy company that deals in clean energy to supply a solar collector for you at a cost, or you can simply build one yourself using materials that you can easily buy at your local hardware store.

Solar collectors are a very basic technology to produce renewable electricity. A more complex technology that makes use of solar power in a different way is a solar thermal engine.

In principle solar thermal engines apply the same idea as the solar collectors discussed above, however, this technology is much more efficient and thereby produces greater amounts of renewable electricity.

Solar thermal engines use active solar heating at very high temperatures in order to drive steam to turbines which then produce high levels of electricity.

Both systems are currently already being used but their usage is expected to increase dramatically in the future when we no longer use fossil fuels as a source of power or electricity.

In addition to using renewable electricity there are a number of measures we all can take to use passive solar heating. This is an important aspect of energy policy because it reduces the overall amount of energy needed for heating a home or an area.

For instance, opening the blinds during daytime to let the sunlight in and closing them at night just before dusk and before it gets dark are important practices to help maximize the benefits of naturally available solar energy.

To use passive solar heating is a great way to take advantage of the consistent energy available from the sun in combination with renewable electricity.

Homes can be designed with windows that allow lots of sunshine in. This is especially important during the winter as it can help to reduce the need for artificial lighting or heating.

Houses must also be well insulated and windows should be double-glazed to keep the home warm with only a minimum of electricity.

If you need advice on how your house could make the most of renewable electricity and passive solar heating contact your local energy company or a building company that specializes in low energy building.

How to Make Solar Panel

Before we start talking about how to make solar panel let’s think about something else first.

Each and every day the energy generated by the sun is enough to power the United States for one and a half years. Despite this fact, our society relies heavily on fossil fuels.

Click Here for the ultimate practical instructions on How to Make Solar Panel.

The earth receives more energy from the sun in one minute than the amount of fossil-fuel-based energy that we consume in a whole year.

However, currently solar power equipment is still much more expensive than its’ fossil fuel equivalent.

The high initial set up costs of solar technology  are one of the main reasons why we have written this article on how to make solar panel.

We want everybody to be able to benefit from this great technology without having to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars setting up the system.

How to make solar panel

There are many different types of solar panels that you can easily put together in your garage or workshop. The solar panel  we are going to make in this article is one that can be fitted onto the roof of your house.

As you want to harness as much solar energy as possible it is important that your solar panels are well insulated. To achieve this we are going to use glazing on the sun-facing side of the panels and thermal insulation on the opposite side.

Furthermore, you should try to eliminate thermal bridges as much as possible.

Before we start talking about how to make solar panel you should ensure that you have a clear working space. You should also organize all the materials that we are going to need before you get started.

To make solar panel you will need safety glasses, copper sheet, garden shears, an electric drill and tap water.

Solar panels are easy to make you just need to have some time and patience.

First, use the garden shears to cut the copper sheet into two squares big enough to fit the hot plate on your oven. Then turn on your stovetop and cook the copper until it turns black.

After you have let the copper cool down completely you can carefully remove any of the loose charcoal that has formed on the sheet. Repeat the same process with the second piece of copper.

Then use some alligator clips and twine to balance both sheets of cooper on a container. Now mix three tablespoons of salt with hot water and brush the mixture onto both panels.

Finally let both panels cool down in the sun. There you have it you your very own solar panels.

Often people who want to know how to make solar panel are not aware of the difference between solar absorbers  and solar collectors, the technology that heats water for the use in your household.

The absorber needs to be manufactured before you can make a solar collector.

To make an absorber you need to cut a sheet of copper or aluminium into a large rectangular or square shape. Then you need to have a tube or coil where the water can run through.

Now you can create the plate design to protect the solar collector on the outside (border). Finally, we recommend you use glass or plastic to cover the collector to protect the system from wind and rain.

We hope that with this article we were able to provide you some answers to your question how to make solar panel.

Finally, for safety reasons, please remember to keep all materials and especially all chemicals that were used in the process of making solar panel out of the reach of children.

Renewable Green Energy

Nearly every day we can read in the newspaper that traditional sources of energy are being exhausted quickly and that  we need to change to renewable green energy.

Click Here for the ultimate Insider Guide and Practical Tips on Renewable Green Energy.

After watching Al Gore’s documentary “An Inconvenient Truth”, you  understand that we need to drastically change the way in which we use fossil fuels.

Otherwise, the consequences for our environment such as climate change and pollution will be dramatic and irreversible.

The usage of renewable green energy does not pose any of the dangers to the environment fossil fuels and nuclear power do.

There are a few renewable green energy options that could provide an answer to our energy problem nationwide. Solar, wind and water power have more energy potential than all of the remaining domestic fossil fuel reserves.

It is of great urgency that we reduce our fossil fuel consumption in order to preserve the environment that we have left.

We must increase our usage of renewable green energy before it is too late. According to climatologists global warming is progressing quickly and we humans have caused much of the problems.

The sun has been warming the earth for millions of years. However, today gases such as carbon dioxide trap the heat in the atmosphere and thereby preventing the atmosphere from cooling down sufficiently again.

The more carbon dioxide we produce by burning oil and coal the stronger this greenhouse effect will become and our planet will overheat.

For some people the importance of this fact is not clear. After all, who doesn’t like to live somewhere where it is a few degrees warmer.

However this increase in atmospheric temperatures causes changes in seasons, warms up the arctic circle, destroys plants and animals  and causes deadly heat waves.

By replacing our consumption of types of energy based on fossil fuels with renewable green energy such as solar power and wind power, we can minimize the effect of global warming.

In contrast to fossil fuels, the energy of the sun is a renewable and sustainable resource which can be used to generate power.

Different solar technologies, e.g. solar collectors are already in use today and many new buildings take advantage of solar energy directly or indirectly, for example, for their heating requirements.

In a number of different countries the usage of small solar collectors to provide hot water for the home is already very common.

Countries such as Australia and Japan are already taking full advantage of renewable green energy. As Americans we need to make our contribution to solving the worldwide problem of climate change by implementing these technologies in our daily lives.

In Europe, in Vienna, Austria to be precise, they have a well-known energy efficient house that makes use of many different ideas and solar technologies.

The windows are designed to allow the sunshine into the rooms during the winter, while during the summer screens keep the house cool. The house is well insulated to prevent it from losing heat to the outside.

A solar power hot water system provides warm water and the outdoor lighting is solar powered.

There are already many things we can do to make more use of renewable green energy to help us live in a cleaner and greener environment.
